Youth Literature Festival October 4
The UIUC College of Education is hosting its first Youth Literature Festival to bring together the community and campus in celebration of the value of literature in the lives of youth. Many nationally known authors (as well as emerging young authors), illustrators, poets, and storytellers will participate in the various Festival events. All events are free and open to the public and will be held at various locations across the Champaign-Urbana community. More information may be found at the Festival Web site. An exhibit of the work of some of the participating authors and illustrators will be on display during September 2008 in the Marshall Gallery of the Main Library.

Occult Science Exhibit in Main Library Hallway
The Mandevillle Collection in the Occult Sciences exhibit sponsored by the Education and Social Science Library can be seen in the Main Library Hallway throughout the month of August. This exhibit highlights the Library's collection of occult materials supported by an endowment established by the late Merten J. Mandeville, a professor of management at the Urbana campus. Under the terms of the endowment, works of a serious nature and those emphasizing the positive aspects of the occult are acquired. The primary subject areas for which materials are collected are astrology; the divinatory arts and palmistry; esoteric religion and mysticism; occult techniques for health, happiness and success; psychical phenomena and research, including clairvoyance, ESP and out-of-body experiences; spiritualism, including apparitions, mediumship, and reincarnation; unidentified flying objects; and witchcraft and magic.

Scanner Now Available in the Education and Social Science Library
A standard scanner that offers color and black-and-white copies is now available in the Education and Social Science Library (ESSL). Located near the public printer in the ESSL, the scanner offers library users an electronic alternative to making paper copies. Questions about this new equipment should be directed to the ESSL reference staff at 217-244-1864.

At times, and for a variety of reasons, the library may not receive issues of journals, or discovers that issues have disappeared after receipt. We have compiled a list of missing journals, and would gratefully accept donations of personal copies. Please contact Nancy O'Brien for more information.
