Here can be found a wealth of information about music in Croatia. There is a directory/database of contact information, URL's and for some even descriptions of musical organizations, events, and individuals such as critics, composers and artists. The database is attempting to compile catalogs of works for composers. There is also a catalog of bibliographic citations for musical compositions and written works about music such as reviews, articles, obituaries of musical figures, etc. Currently under construction is a list of music-related links and a music news section. Educational InstitutionsSearch engines and directories are often very effective tools for finding sites in this category. Here can be found statistical data on Croatia ranging from population and employment statistics to agricultural and industrial figures. Most of the data is from the year 2000. The text of Narodne novine is available here going back to 1990, but it is difficult to use due to the number of frames on the site. There are title, subject, and corporate body indexes for the publications. This is the official web site of the Croatian government. It includes links to ministries and other government bodies and documents such as the constitution, press releases, and government sessions. The site uses java and has irritating small frames in the center of the page. Language and LiteratureURL: http://www.hnk.ffzg.hr/cnc.htm In English and Croatian. The Croatian National Corpus is a linguistic project that gathers and digitizes a massive about of material in the Croatian language to enable research on various topics. The results of a search will not provide a complete text, but rather an excerpt from the text showing how the word is used. Besides the corpus of contemporary Croatian, the site also includes one for classic texts and ones for the works of Gundulic and Marulic. The search component requires Croatian fonts and can be extremely slow. There is also a link to the Croatian e-text project that provides links to literary information and actual e-texts of Croatian literature. Some of the links are to texts of translations into English. In spite of the number of bad links, there is still a lot of information here. Libraries and ArchivesMost Croatian search engines and directories will generate lists of libraries. Try the term knjiznice. Information on archives often appears on genealogy sites since genealogists make extensive use of archival documents in their research. This is the site of the Women's Information and Documentation Center in Zagreb which promotes and supports women's organizations in Croatia and disseminates information helpful to women. Of particular interest is an address book of Croatian women's organizations with contact information, links to web pages if applicable and a summary of each organizations interests and activities.
