    In Lithuanian or English. This is the website of the Lithuanian Development Agency. It includes all kinds of information related to doing business in Lithuania from basic country data to legal information. There are also many links to business oriented sites.

  • Bank of Lithuania

    In Lithuanian or English. This site provides basic information about the bank and its publications, some of which are available here in full-text. There are also many banking statistics, a database of banking institutions in Lithuania with URL's and contact information and press releases from the Bank.

    Culture

  • Lithuanian Folk Culture Centre

    In English. This site provides information about the folk culture of Lithuania such as traditional recipes and genealogical advice. The site also contains a list of Lithuanian organizations around the world and links to many Lithuanian cultural sites.

  • Museums, Theaters, Music Groups

    In English. This is a list of cultural links for Lithuania compiled by the directory Lithuania Online.

    Educational Institutions

    Search engines and directories are often useful tools for producing lists of institutions in this category.


  • Lithuanian Academy of Sciences

    In Lithuanian or English, but there is far more information in the Lithuanian version. This site includes general information about the academy and its institutes. Contact information for the members is also available. This site uses frames.

  • Ministry of Education
    URL:  http://www.smm.lt/
    In Lithuanian and English. This site includes a wealth of information on education in Lithuania from laws to addresses and URL's of educational institutions at all levels to statistics. There are also many links to other education sites in Lithuania.

    Genealogy

    One of the best web sites for Eastern European genealogy is the FEEFHS (Federation of East European Family History Societies) which is described in our General Resources section. Be sure to consult their section on Lithuania. Cyndi's List is large general genealogy site that includes information on East European countries. Regardless of what genealogy site you use, don't ignore any sections that pertain to the Baltics or Eastern Europe.


  • Lithuanian Global Genealogical Society

    In English. This site provides general information about Lithuanian genealogy and also links to many other pages. The Society publishes a newsletter on the topic, but only previews of issues are available. Actual issues have to be purchased. There is a Lithuanian surname database that can be searched for free. Some services are only available to members who have paid their membership fee.

  • Lithuanian President

    In Lithuanian and English. At this site can be found biographies of the President and the First Lady and information about the Presidential Palace. The site also contains the texts of his annual addresses, speeches, and press releases. There is more information on the Lithuanian version of the site.

  • Lithuanian Parliament

    In Lithuanian and English. This site provides information on current activities of the Lithuanian government. Here can be found the text of the constitution, a full-text database of legal acts, biographies of members of the Parliament, election results and much more. There is more information on the Lithuanian version of the site.

  • Lithuanian Department of Statistics

    In Lithuanian and English. This site provides basic statistical information on Lithuania from consumer price indices to the national budget to a summary of the latest census data. Also found here are the Department's press releases going back to 1999 and a catalog of their publications. In comparison to the amount of data available at the sites of Statistical Bureau's of other East European countries, this site is not particularly rich in information.

  • Lietuvos Nacionaline Martyno Mazvydo Biblioteka

    In Lithuanian and English. This is the homepage of the Lithuanian National Library which also serves as the Lithuanian Parliamentary Library. Here can be found general information about the library and its collections including contact information for its departments and employees. The texts of several of the library's publications are here, such as Lithuanian Books in Print for 1998 and an exhibit of 16th century Lithuanian Books. This site provides links to the National Library catalog, the Lithuanian union catalog, the bibliographical database of European Union Official documents in Lithuanian and a scanned card catalog of older materials. The databases use various forms of technology from frames to java and they also use Unicode for characters. There is more content on the Lithuanian version of the page.

    In English. This is a list of scanned maps of Lithuania, including several historical ones of the Baltic region. The site was created by the map Collection at the University of Texas at Austin.

    In English. Search Engine Colossus is a directory site of search engines and directories for countries around the world. This is their listing for Lithuania.

  • Delfi

    In Lithuanian. Lithuanian gateway with a subject directory not accessible through Search Engine Colossus. News headlines from many Lithuanian sources are available here including a news archive for 1999 and 2000. The search component does not require Lithuanian fonts. Through this site one can also search western search engines such as Alta Vista, Infoseek and others.
